Where`s that update? Here it is!

It has been a while since this blog was updated. There were various reasons. However, none of them were valid ones. With the super bowl starting right now, it is the perfect moment to spend some time on this activity ;-)
On December 12th, I did one of my best workouts so far under the new training approach. A 12x400@66-68 with 1:00 of rest is a solid workout. Especially if you need to go all-out on #9 and 12. However, on that last 400, I pulled my left hamstring. The hamstring wasn't the root cause but the achilles tendon was.

The volume had to go down, and after 4 days of pool running, we picked up the running again. Becoming more mature means that you don't stress out on this minor issue. If the tendon was hurting, I aborted my runs or did not start the scheduled workout. We maintained that common sense mentality for 3 weeks and started to increase the volume again. In between Nathalie and I got married :-)

This week 72+ miles (117 km) were logged. As of tomorrow, we start the real prep of the summer season. Based upon all the work that has been put into mind and body so far, I really look forward to the upcoming track season.

It is amazing how well a body can adapt to volume and intensity. Especially after my long runs (17 miles) that I do on an empty stomach at an average pace of 6:15/mile (3:53/km), that feeling kicks in. I never felt so strong and the mindset is there to come close to my best track season so far. Back in 2011, I ran 3:45 on 1500m and 2:21 on 1000m. The goal is to settle me in the sub 4:00 mile club!

Come back soon, more to follow!

Regards,
- Wout
