Rust duster coming up

The last couple of weeks, a significant bump in the fitness level was achieved. Long runs go smoother and track workouts go better than anticipated.
That results in two major observations: first of all I consider myself slowly becoming an athlete again. Directly tied to that, the urge to start planning a first set of race events became reality.

Yes, I was still running.  Yes, I was not physically injured. But due to the lacking motivation I became a jogger that just loves to run. The athlete part was gone. Now, 2-3 months after rediscovering the drive and motivation I start noticing the fitness bump.

With that new fitness level, the missing confidence is slowly coming back as well. Not every workout goes well but that is no surprise. There is still lots of room for improvement and there are definitely more good than bad days. FYI - check out this article of McMillan if you struggle with accepting 'bad' workouts.

This week was my first week of the 4 mile workouts. For the ones that don't understand Scott's philosophy, we break down miles on the track as per the following structure: week 1 = mile repeats, week 2 = same volume but 800m repeats, week 3 = same volume but 400m repeats. Our uptempo (same volume) is the second big workout of the week that we run as a predator run (keep on picking up the pace). As you progress in fitness levels, the workout volume is adapted. Our top level team members do up to 7-8 miles.

So everything progresses slowly. The first meets make their way on to the training calendar. I look forward to the first rust duster and just have fun.

Hope you have the same!

Wout
