After my though days in week 08, my body recovered slowly over
the weekend. However, the first days of my last week in Detroit the feeling was
still not 100%. At these kind of moments, you should not panic as a runner. Trying
to catch up on the ‘lost’ training days is one of the most stupid things to do.
The trainers of the High Performance Running Team, deliberately
repeat that message over and over again. Sometimes, the mind is too strong for
the body and you only make the 'damage' worse. “Listen to your body” is one of
the most important things to keep in mind. That being said, the trainings of
Monday till Wednesday were changed (shortened) based upon my body`s response.
I`m really keen on executing whatever is been planned. But
in this case it makes sense. Since our arrival in the US, I`ve had a handful of
trainings that were changed for this reason. However, by having continuity and persistence,
you`ll get the most out of your workout plan. The trainings as of Thursday went
fine again, giving me some peace of mind. The week`s total mileage ended at
107.8K/67 miles.
It is nice to see that I ‘survived’ the so called hard
winter in Detroit. Yes, I was there in an unusual winter with not that much
snow. Yes, I was there when it wasn`t that cold (the days colder than 10F/-12C
were exceptions this year). But still I`m quite proud on the achievement of
keeping my winter`s mileage steady while combining 2 travel days, 40+ hours of
client delivery and a handful of internal Deloitte hours. 50+ work related hours
and running 102.8K/63.89 miles a week is possible to execute.
As of next week, I will be traveling to San Jose (California) for my next project. Let`s find out if
you can work hard and run a sub 4`00 mile and/or a sub 3`44 1500m race in the
summer season :-)
Sportive regards,
Wout
