It has been about one month since the latest post. Things are still going well here in Colorado Springs. With completing today`s 17 miler, the weekly training load ended. This week 83+ miles were put in successfully.
It is absolutely not just about the mileage. However, the consistency helps me believe that my body adapts very well to the new training philosophy. Scott Simmons theory seems to work pretty well for me. Every week, we focus on the small successes of getting my body used to the workouts. Once it finally is comfortable, we get the mind and body outside the comfort zone again. Slowly, we progress in every aspect.
Scott doesn't want to rush at all. We have plenty of time to get the return out of the workout schedule as we will not return to Europe in 2013. All races next year will be done on American soil. From an athlete perspective, it is probably the best thing to do. My PTO (paid time off) will be used for training camps and race prepping. I`m sure I will face a hard time not having the opportunity to have face-to-face contact with close friends and family but we`re here for a reason: getting back in shape and just enjoy the ride getting there!
With Thanksgiving coming closer and a successful delivery of our first phase at our new client`s project, traveling will be eliminated. With a flexible work schedule and a long 4-day weekend, aiming for optimal recovery should be feasible.
Cheers,
- Wout
